Alex Wardle - Lighting Designer for Charcoalblue

Alex is a theatre consultant and lighting designer for Charcoalblue. His lighting design work has been seen around the UK and in Australia, China, Lebanon, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Syria and the USA.

 

He studied German and electronics at Keele University, then theatre arts at the Freie Universität Berlin and at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He was production Manager for Kneehigh Theatre from 2000-2005 and a theatre consultant for Arup from 2005-2011.

 

Lighting designs include: Birdsong (Uk tour 2013-15); Sons Without Fathers and Uncle Vanya for Helena Kaut-Howson (Belgrade Coventry and Arcola); My Perfect Mind (Told by an Idiot); Tell Them That I Am Young and Beautiful, The Cradle Will Rock and Innocence (Arcola) and Bay and The Shift (Young Vic). Lighting designs for Kneehigh include: Rapunzel (London and New York); Tristan and Yseult (outdoors at Restormel Castle and at the National Theatre) and The Wooden Frock, The Red Shoes and The Riot.

 

Alex’s work on Birdsong was shortlisted for the 2013 Technical Theatre Awards. Uncle Vanya was shortlisted for Best Lighting Design at the 2012 Off West End Theatre Awards. The Cradle Will Rock was nominated for Best Lighting Design at the 2011 Off West End Theatre Awards.
